I create art that evolves around ‘memory.’

I believe the landscape etched in our memory is more beautiful than any landscape that we see with our own eyes.
The clue to the beauty of memory, I think, lies in the scarcity of information.

When we see something that brings back a memory, the less information we have, the more we tend to fill the void with our imagination to complete the full picture.
For instance, a landscape in black and white photograph may be more beautiful than the same landscape in color because it requires more imagination to fill in
the gap; likewise, the same landscape in color may be more beautiful than that in a film.
In my artwork, I try to recreate ‘the beauty rooted in imperfect resolution’ which presents itself when our brain tries to retrieve the buried memory. In order to achieve this, I use cube block, a material that enables me to reconstruct an image which is more obscure than that in reality.

The reason why I use cubes, three-dimensional objects rather than flat mosaics, is because I think seeing the cubic image is similar to the process of tracing back our memory or having a sudden flash of memory ;it can appear clear or vague, depending on the angle from which we view the image.
